New child seat laws from 18 September 2006 require children travelling in cars to use the correct type of child seats, but there are exemptions to this new law. Children of 3 years to 135 cm in height may travel in the rear of a licensed Taxi and use an adult seat belt if the right child restraint is not available. Children under 3 years may travel in the rear of a taxi unrestrained if NO child restraint is available.

This new law is interpreted that: if a taxi is per-booked in advance for an airport / long distance trip involving children, then the correct child seats ARE required by law. (The Taxi exemption is wavered as it is arranged in advance). The customer would be required to supply the correct child seats for the children’s age, height and weight. We would normally be able to return the child seats at a later pre arranged date / location.

In the interest of safety and to comply with current legislation, we will not carry on pre-arranged journeys with out the correct child restraints: baby’s, toddlers or children under 13 years of age who are under 135cms.
